The unit inserted has a voice activated SIM card, contract or pay as you go. When the mobile number of the SIM card is called, the G64's relay pulses. The call is disconnected almost immediately, so the caller's account is not charged.
GSM relays are a more econimical way to give access to many hundreds of users, without having to issue cards or remotes. Caller line identification (CLI) allows the G64 to screen incoming calls. The device can be set to open for any user who calls the SIM card number, or to open only to a list of authorised caller phone numbers.
The user list (known asa white list) can be updated by sending SMS (texts). The relay can also by operated by text, for example to hold a gate open. The full manual is available to download for all the features.

In almost all cases, this divice will be in a fixed location. Before selecting a SIM card, it is advisable to check the service provider's covergae for the area where the G64 is to be installed. If the reception subsequently turns out to be poor, you can sometimes opt in to roaming which allows access to other networks.
