Frequently asked questions

Q.      What is a rolling code?

Remotes can be Rolling code or Fixed code. Rolling codes are high security. They cannot be copied and they cannot be hacked.  There are hundreds of codes sent in a sequence, so that the code changes each time it is sent.  That is why 'eavesdropping' on the remote while it is sending does not work.

In fact, rolling codes have an agreed format that starts with a 32 bit rolling code, then a 32 bit fixed code. Some receivers only look at the 2nd part of the transmission, so can claim to work on rolling codes. In truth, they are reading the insecure half.

Q.      Will RE432M take rolling code remotes?

Yes, but only Came rolling code remotes. Each manufacturer buys a licence or encryption code. It sets a unique codes for all their remotes and their receivers. As rolling codes are all about security, manufacturers do not publish the encrytion code, so that only their remotes and receivers are compatible.

Q.      What is a fixed code?

Fixed code remotes send a stream of the same code for as long as the button is pressed. Common formats have been 12 bit codes or 24 bit codes. Longer bit lengths are used by Came third generation remotes, but Came do not publish the code length. It means that Came remotes with longer fixed codes cannot be copied by cheap copies.

Q.      Will RE432M take fixed codes?

Third generation Came receivers will take 12 bit, 24 bit, and longer fixed codes. But the code length is not the full story. Most european manufacturers default to a set European bit rate. Some cheap asian fixed code copies use a different bit rate that is incompatible with Came receivers.

Q.      Will RE432M work on all frequencies?

No, this receiver is only for 433MHz. Came make a 868MHz version that is almost identical. These are the two frequenicies used throughout Europe. North America has its own set of permissable frequencies. 2.4GHz is the standard Wifi frequenciy that has been seen in smart remotes that can also display the state of the door.
